What client platforms are supported?

  • We have a mature Windows DirectX 9 solution that scales very well and supports a wide range of hardware, from GeForce 2 & Pentium 3 up to modern Shader Model 3 GPUs on multi-core systems providing near photo-realism.  This client is constantly being upgraded to the cutting edge.

What 3D modelling tools are supported?

  • 3D Studio Max & Maya are our primary modelling tools at this moment.

What training & support is provided?

  • We provide full phone and email support. We also have the facilities to monitor and assess many parts of the system remotely. Detailed documentation of all APIs including source code examples is provided. Hands-on training for all aspects of the system is provided at our offices or by arrangement.

How often do you provide updates to the technology?

  • We generally release two revisions each year.

Am I stuck using old technology when you update?

  • No, you get all of our updates provided free of charge as part of your licence.

What API's are provided?

  • Plenty!  More information on the API's will be provided as part of our licensing process.

Is source code supplied?

  • Yes, to all components (except core patentable routines in the server).

Can I customize your code?

  • Sure can.

Can I use my own 3D engine or write my own client?

  • Yes, we provide full source to our client, which you can use to ensure compatibility with our server.

What is the most number of avatars visible on-screen at any time?

  • This is more a game design decision than a technical limit in our system.

How many clients per server cluster can be supported?

  • Millions.

Can you load-balance multiple shards within a single server cluster?

  • Yes! The BigWorld system will dynamically load-balance shards, instances and complete MMOGs across the server cluster, thereby reducing the number of servers required and providing efficiency across your MMOG multi-game network.

How many clients per server can be supported?

  • This is a game design issue more than technology. BigWorld scales linearly with CPU speed.

What do I have to build/provide to make a complete MMOG?

  • The game parts; 3D Graphics, animations, GUI for the client, specific game code (both at the client and the server ends).

Who provides the server set-up and hosting?

  • It's up to you.  We can give you a hand or assist in providing a full solution.  Either way you're in control.

I want to make a casual game, does your technology do that?

  • Yes, we support a range of clients that are suitable for casual games.  If your game has some level of persistence in the characters or world, then BigWorld is an appropriate choice.  The benefits of using the robust, secure and scalable BigWorld technology are even more obvious when large numbers of players are considered

Can I make a massive FPS? An MMO, only one with fast paced action using BigWorld technology? Most MMOGs these days are turn-based, and I want to try something new.

  • Yes, this is one of the principal aims of our technology. With appropriate game design decisions and realistic goals, it is completely feasible to have ‘twitch’ action in an MMO instead of more ‘traditional’ pacing.
