There are many solutions available for the client-side of game development including the Unreal Engine, LithTech, and Renderware. However, these solutions do not offer online capabilities and, therefore, provide only 30%-50% of the technology required to implement a massively multiplayer product. There are solutions that provide massively multiplayer capabilities, but none of these have sufficiently robust and advanced client technology required to implement cutting-edge entertainment products.

In addition to offering a comprehensive package, Bigworld™ offers unique, industry leading features. For example, the load balancing technology, which is required to maintain a proper distribution of work across multiple server machines, is based on a proprietary algorithm for segmenting the world and assigning it to the server machine with the lowest load. In addition, the technology is based on a uniquely clean and flexible architecture. The process of porting the client to Xbox and the server to Windows took only a few weeks. Normally, this process would take about 3 months. All of the technical people at Microsoft who have worked with the technology, including the Xbox advanced technology team which has exposure to a diverse set of technologies and companies, have commented on the elegance and excellent design of the Bigworld™ architecture.

BigWorld employs software engineers who have a rigorous academic background and have demonstrated a high aptitude for mathematics, problem solving, and engineering. As a result, the company applies a level of scientific excellence and innovation to its solutions that many other companies cannot match.

In the 18 months that we have worked with the technology, it has been remarkably stable. We have seen only a handful of software crashes that are due to programmer error.
